If you’re looking for duck & dove hunting at its best, this is the place. Attracting millions of waterfowl annually, the Mexican state of Sinaloa is alive with winged activity and natural beauty. Millions of ducks and dove are attracted each year by the warm climate and vast fields of rice, corn, barley and varieties of other crops that cover the lush farmlands of Sinaloa. Bird hunters get up to three extra months to hunt after most seasons close in the U.S. Reservations are being taken now for the upcoming season in Mexico.
Dove Hunting starts bright and early with breakfast at your hotel and then on to the fields for a morning dove hunt, then back to the Plaza Inn for lunch and a siesta, and lots more hunting in the afternoon. Dove hunting in Los Mochis is fast and furious and the hunting spots are as close as a 25 minute drive from the hotel! Hunters, their guides and bird boys are taken to fields where they pass shoot huge flocks of doves as they fly into the area to feed. Mourning doves are bagged from daylight till late-morning and White-wing doves start flying around 8-9:00am. There is a good reason we call our dove outings “Hot-Barrel Hunts,” there are a ton of doves here.
White Wing and Mourning Dove are attracted each year by the warm climate and vast fields of rice, corn, barley and varieties of other crops that cover the lush farmlands of Sinaloa. Bird hunters get up to five extra months to hunt after most seasons close in the U.S.
Airboat assisted duck hunting is the norm in Mexico. You hardly get your feet wet. Hunters and guides/bird boys are taken to the blinds aboard airboats where the guides put out the decoys. The airboats are then used to get the ducks airborne and are then decoyed within range into your spread. These assisted hunts are great for older hunters or hunters who can’t get around easily.
Full limits of the various kinds of ducks can be expected if the hunter does his or her part. In fact, it is generally preferred for the hunter to select the specific type of duck desired. Unlike duck hunting in the United States, there are many more shot opportunities in Mexico, so the hunter can be more discriminating and still have a very successful hunt. Traditional waterfowl hunts in Mexico start at approximately 5:30am as they do in the United States. Airboat assisted duck hunts get started after sun-up and in the afternoon if you are on a Duck and Dove hunt package.
After lunch and siesta, the afternoon duck hunts use airboats that whisk you at high speeds over 2”-8” of water to your duck blind. Flying just over the top of the water, you’ll be astonished by the variety of ducks and grandeur of this spectacular hunting paradise. Once you are in your blind, the airboats are used to keep the ducks flying and decoying into your spread. After the first box of shells, you’ll start calling your shots. There is that many ducks to shoot at!
The Mexico duck hunting areas are comprised of vast marshlands as far as the eye can see and provide a perfect habitat for a variety of ducks, many of which are scarce in the United States. Ducks bagged in February and March make wonderful taxidermy specimens!
Typical duck species available at are Black-bellied Whistling Tree ducks (Pichiguila), Redheads, Cinnamon Teal, Green-winged & Blue-winged Teal, Gadwall, Canvasback, Fulvous Whistling Tree ducks, Mottled Duck, Widgeon, Pintail (Sprig), Shoveler Ducks, and Mallards along with some Speckle Belly and Black Brant Geese from late November thru January.
