Not even North Africa has anything that compares to the Texas aoudad hunting has. These introduced sheep have thrived on the dry slopes of the Lone Star State for years. With no closed season, limited hunting regulations, and more affordable outfitters than you’ll find for any other sheep hunt, it’s hard to think of a reason not to go after them!
For most of us hunters, every year is the same—we spend all year waiting for fall to come around, then go into a frenzy spending every free moment of shooting light out on the field. We then have another eight or nine months of twiddling our thumbs and reading hunting magazines, broken up by a spring bear or turkey hunt if we’re lucky.
That’s why it’s so great that you can go aoudad hunting Texas’s mountains at any time of year. You don’t have to sacrifice any of your annual hunts to do it. Many hunters schedule these for the dead of winter, when the only option back at home is ice fishing.
Alaska is home to breathtaking Dall sheep hunts. Kyrgyzstan has its Marco Polo sheep. Mexico, of course, has its famed desert bighorns. Any one of these sheep hunting trips is the experience of a lifetime—but at prices ranging from $14,000 to nearly $50,000 before travel expenses, most people simply can’t afford to take advantage of them.
Aoudad hunting won’t cost nearly as much. You won’t have to deal with crossing international borders (assuming you live in the U.S.), and you may well be able to drive to your destination. When you cut out the pricy flight tickets and non-resident alien tags, you shave off thousands of dollars.
Second, the outfitters charge much less. Our recommended Texas Aoudad Hunting Outfitter offers four-day, 2×1 guided hunts at just $6,500. That’s less than a third of the price of most other sheep hunts – anywhere in the world!
Let’s face it, not everyone wants to deal with the freezing temperatures found on most sheep hunting trips. While some people are right at home in three feet of snow, some of us would rather not lose our toes to frostbite!
Hunting in Texas during the winter lets you experience mild temperatures ranging from the low forties to the low sixties. While you’ll probably need a jacket, you won’t need to buy your clothes from the Inuit! If you’re used to packing your gloves full of heating packs and hunting for whitetail bucks, this will seem like a tropical vacation.
How could we forget to talk about the hunting itself? These are challenging mountain hunts, but our outfitters boast exceptional success rates—close to 100%. Remember, that’s over the course of only four days of hunting.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that aoudad have some of the most impressive horns in the animal kingdom. This isn’t a second-rate trophy for a second-rate price—it’s an incredible, professionally guided hunt for an animal that will dominate your wall, offered at an affordable rate. That’s why we recommend Texas Aoudad hunts.
