Red Stag Hunting in New ZealandThe Hunt

This outfitter is devoted to providing you the absolute best experience possible. Toward that end, they take only one hunting party at a time. You will not be accompanied by assistant guides leading you to one of the outfitter’s leftover areas—instead, the master guide, the owner himself, will take you hunting in the absolute best areas for your hunting style, desired trophy, and physical capability.

The outfitter will spend some time discussing the options with you to determine which camps and hunts will best match your goals and desires. Depending on these details, your hunt can be scheduled to last anywhere from less than a week to more than a month.

Most hunting areas will be reached by 4×4, but for the most remote areas, helicopters may be used. These are all fair chase free-range hunts; the most common hunting method is spot and stalk, but other methods may be used.

Preserve hunts are available, but must be requested before scheduling your hunt.

Queenstown New ZealandGetting There

You will fly into Queenstown, New Zealand, which will serve as the base for all of your hunts—none of the hunting areas are much more than three hours away from the city. The outfitter will meet up with you at the airport and transport you back to his home, where you’ll spend the night recovering from the long flight and planning and preparing for the hunt.

This outfitter offers simple accommodations that get you as close as possible to the best hunting grounds, including tent camps, farmhouses and mountain huts.

Other Activities

Queenstown offers great opportunities for tourists, making this a great hunt for bringing along non-hunting companions. Go on a sightseeing tour, enjoy some of New Zealand’s incredible skiing, or simply take advantage of the great shopping in town. New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and there’s something for everyone here.

Red Stag Hunt in New ZealandClimate

Remember that the seasons are reversed in New Zealand. March and April hunts are usually performed in mild or brisk autumn weather; winter hunts, during June–August, are going to be cold. Prepare accordingly, but remember that the weather here can change extraordinarily quickly.

Recommended Firearms

Any good deer hunting rifle should serve you well with most New Zealand big game, so bring the gun you’re most proficient with; if you aren’t sure, a .300 magnum or something slightly larger will almost always be a good choice. Other rifles may be better for specific hunts.
