INTRO

fishing guatemalaThe Pacific coast of Guatemala is home to one of the largest breeding grounds for Pacific sailfish in the world, concentrating huge numbers of these premier, saltwater game fish. Along this stretch of coastline strong eastward currents originating from Mexico collide with westward currents from El Salvador. This collision of nutrient-rich waters creates an ideal feeding ground for sailfish, marlin, dorado, tuna, grouper, and many other pelagic species.

Now Global Sporting Safaris is thrilled to have partnered with one of the premier bill fishing lodges in this esteemed locale. The lodge fleet has released up to 30 sailfish a day during peak season! Their year round daily average is 15-20 releases. Peak season is from October to June, but good numbers of sailfish are caught year round.  The team at this lodge is passionate and dedicated to ensure you have the sport fishing experience of your dreams.

BOATS

fishing in guatemalaThis lodge operates a fleet of charter sport fishing vessels ranging in size from 36 to 43 feet in length. All are safe, secure and comfortable boats, fully outfitted with the latest electronic packages, safety equipment and high quality fishing gear. With an average cruising speed of 25 knots these boats have no trouble in reaching the productive waters quickly.

The captain and crew of each boat are well-seasoned professionals with years of experience in Guatemalan waters. Each boat has its own special features and all are well-maintained, clean and equipped to cater to the clients’ comfort, right down to the air conditioning and icy cold beer!

GETTING THERE

Fly direct from Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Dallas or Los Angeles to Guatemala City to be met by the lodge driver. Enjoy a private, scenic 1.5 hour drive to the Pacific coast passing through the beautiful town of Antigua and breathtaking views of regional volcanoes. Upon your arrival at the lodge unpack and unwind by the pool before dinner that evening.

A 15 minute helicopter ride directly from the airport to the Pacific coast can also be readily arranged.

FLY FISHING!

guatemala fly fishingWhat fly fisher wouldn’t want to catch a bill fish on the fly! The experienced crews will apply all their hard-earned knowledge as they tease the sailfish up within casting distance. The pure adrenaline rush surges through you as you watch that sword snaking through the waves to slash at your perfectly thrown fly. You strip-set and WHAM! Lightning jolts through your doubled-over 10 weight.  Seconds later a shimmering, hundred-pound, tail-walking explosion dances across the surf!

No matter if you’re an “old salt” or a relative newcomer to the sport, the veteran captains and mates of this lodge are eager to share the necessary skills and proficiencies to bring your billfish to hand. They are happy to work closely with those needing assistance with the challenges of big game fly fishing, doing their best to assure your success. The only remaining question may be, how many can you land!
