Panama Fishing Lodge You’ll be treated like royalty from the moment you arrive. Once you reach the airport in Tocumen, you’ll be met by the Lodge’s hostesses, who will handle all the formalities of customs and immigration while you relax in a private lounge. No waiting in line to have your passport stamped or standing around at the baggage claim here!

Once you’re checked through (which should take less than half an hour), you’ll take a one hour, fifteen minute flight out to the eastern side of Coiba Island. History buffs may appreciate the landing zone: the former prison camp of Manuel Noriega and one of the only “developed” parts of the island. Here you’ll meet the captain and staff, and your luggage will be taken to the boat. From there it’s just a short trip to the fishing camp.

Panama Fishing Charter The Panama fishing lodge itself is the National Park Service’s HQ. Air-conditioned cabins with private baths and upgraded furnishings are reserved for you and your party to provide you with the most comfortable stay possible.

It is important to note that there is no cell phone service or internet access here. A satellite phone is on hand in case of emergency. If you need to keep in contact with anyone back home during your Panama charter fishing trip, it’s highly recommended that you take an Iridium phone along with you, as it’s the only kind certain to work on Coiba.

From your lodge, it’s just a short 20 miles by marlin fishing boat to the Hannibal Bank, where trophy-worthy fish can be found in abundance. This area is only lightly fished due to its distance from the mainland and the lack of development on the island itself. Few other locations can compete. To make your Panama charter fishing experience even better, this lodge only takes on one party at a time. Your party won’t be sharing the boat with anyone but the crew and a guide with more than two decades of experience.

Food and drink are provided: meals are prepared for you, and even imported beer and top-shelf liquors are included in the price. Daily laundry service is provided as well.

At this Panama fishing lodge, you’ll fish when you want for as long as you want. You and your party dictate the schedule for the boat, not the other way around! If you ever decide you want to take some time off from reeling in leviathan-sized sport fish that you’ll have to rivet to your wall, there are plenty of other activities available in this beautiful national park. Take a hike into the rainforest on the main island or one of the others nearby and experience the pristine, one-of-a-kind environment found on Coiba; go kayaking or fly fishing; dive into the ocean for some swimming, snorkeling or even scuba diving. These activities are also included in the price.

Fish Species

On your Panama charter fishing trip, you’ll have good odds of finding game fish at the following times of year. Their average weights are shown as well:

January-May: Black marlin (400-700 pounds), blue marlin (400-700 pounds), yellowfin tuna (200-360 pounds), roosterfish (40-80 pounds), Pacific Cubera snapper (20-60 pounds), tarpon (60-100 pounds), and Pacific sailfish (70-200 pounds).

June-August: Best season for black marlin—some weigh in at up to 1000 pounds during this time of year; odds good for blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, wahoo (40-70 pounds), roosterfish, Pacific Cubera snapper, tarpon, and Pacific sailfish.

September-November: Black marlin, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, roosterfish, Pacific Cubera snapper, tarpon, and Pacific sailfish.

December: A good month for all eight species—black marlin, blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, roosterfish, Pacific Cubera snapper, tarpon, and Pacific sailfish.

Itinerary

Four days fishing: Panama Marlin Fishing Lodge

Day 1: Arrive at international airport and meet with lodge hostesses. Spend the night in the city.
Day 2: Fly to Coiba Island at 6:30 in the morning; begin your first day’s fishing by about 8:00 AM. Return to the island around 6:00 in the evening.
Days 3-5: Full day of fishing.
Day 6: Fly back to Panama City at 8:00 in the morning, arriving there at about 9:30 AM. You’ll have the same VIP treatment during departure that you received on arrival.

Six days fishing:

Day 1: After transferring between airports, arrive at Coiba Island by approximately 3:00 in the afternoon.
Days 2-6: Full day of fishing, or take some time to just enjoy the islands whenever you want.
Day 7: Last day of fishing. You can take the plane out tonight to get home early or stick around to enjoy the free drinks and stay in your lodge another night.
Day 8: Depart whenever you feel like it—leave early in the morning or relax on the beach until evening.
