This is an exploratory Marco Polo Argali hunt for three hunters that will be hosted by Bob Anderson, Operations Manager for Global Sporting Safaris. The hunt will take place in either the Uch-Chat or Arpa areas located in the Karakol zone of Kyrgyzstan south of the Naryn River, so the sheep are importable into the United States. The camps are located in the highlands of the Tien-Shan Mountains at an altitude of 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) above sea level.
The hunt will take place with a Kyrgyz outfitter that has been in operation since 2000, hunting over one million hectares (2.47 million acres) in southern Kyrgyzstan. As Global Sporting Safaris has not worked with this outfitter previously, we are proposing an exploratory hunt to familiarize ourselves
with the overall operation including hunt logistics and quality of game. We believe this to be a reputable outfitter but will expect some challenges in conjunction with the hunt – hence the term exploratory and the discounted price. Once we have done our due diligence on the outfitter and made recommendations to ensure that future hunts will be conducted in accordance with our expectations, the prices will go up dramatically – so this is a golden opportunity to go an adventure, experience a new destination, and have an opportunity to harvest both sheep and ibex in Kyrgyzstan. We wouldn’t be going if we did not believe that the hunt will be successful; however, prospective hunters should be advised that, as with all “fair chase” hunting opportunities, there are no guarantees that you will harvest an animal.
The hunt can be scheduled for open dates in either January or February of 2012 at the convenience of those hunters who will participate in the hosted hunt (either before or after the SCI Convention in Las Vegas). Alternate dates may be selected in the fall of 2012 as necessary.
The sheep in the Tien Shan Mountains will average between 51 and 52 inches, with an occasional 60 inch ram taken.
Spot and stalk hunting will be conducted on foot and by horseback at elevations ranging from 3,500 to 4,500 meters (11,484 to 14,765 feet).
