Iowa deer hunting

Iowa Whitetail Hunting

Iowa has been and continues to be the leader, with more Boone and Crocket whitetails being recorded every year than any other state. We have secured the best possible hunting ground in these areas for long enough lengths of time to be able to manage our deer herds. When you combine this type of management, as well as our hundreds of acres of food plots, and being located in the number one whitetail state in the country, it makes for the best hunting you will find anywhere.
Iowa has long been known to have produced some of the biggest Whitetails in the world and the popularity is rapidly growing. It is a preference point area but I can tell you it is worth the wait

We are located in the South East part of the state where you will find some true giant deer. A great deal of the biggest names in whitetail hunting have hunted right here in our area.

If you are waiting to accumulate enough preference points in Iowa and would still like to hunt this region we do also off a Missouri deer hunt either Rifle or Archery and will give you a 10% discount on that hunt after booking your upcoming Iowa hunt with us.

Location(s) of Hunting Trip

Our Iowa Whitetail hunts take place in Zones 5 and 6, located in southeast Iowa. Both Zones 5 and 6 are in the “Hot Spot” for the state of Iowa with 13 of the top 25 counties located within these 2 zones. We are located near Keosauqua Iowa in the South east corner of the state

Arrival/Departure Airport(s)

The best airport to fly into is Cedar Rapids, Iowa. If you require airport pick-up there will be a $125.00 charge for round trip. St. Louis, MO is another option; airport pick-up fee for STL is $200.00. Please let us know at your earliest convenience of your flight arrival and departure.

Mode of Transportation

We use 4X4 vehicles to get the hunters to and from there stands or blinds. We also have ATV’s if the conditions get to rough for the pickups.

Lodging

We offer a variety of lodging options ranging from bunk style to private rooms. If you require special sleeping arraignment, please be sure to let us know in advance. There is a $250.00 convenience fee if a private room is required. All three lodges have big TV rooms where the hunters can gather at night and exchange stories of their day or past hunts. All bedding and towels are provided. You just need to bring your toiletries.

Just make yourself at home the lodge is yours while you are there.

Food and Beverages

For Breakfast we have Cereal, hot or cold with toast, bagels and some fruit. Juices and milk

Lunches are a bag lunch such as sandwiches, cookies or a snack, chips and a drink

Supper is always a good hot home cooked meal that is second to none with plenty to eat for everyone.

Hunting Overview

Iowa deer tags are awarded on a lottery style draw, and applications must be turned in during the application period which runs from the first Saturday in May through the first Sunday in June. To draw an archery tag in Iowa it generally takes 2 preference points, meaning you will probably draw on your 3 year of applying. Firearm tags are generally easier and many hunters receive them on the first or second year of applying.

Our daily routine on the semi-guided hunts begins with a light breakfast of cereal, toast, bagels, etc. and packing of your lunch for the day. We then take off for the stand/blind arriving 30-60 minutes prior to shooting light. We strongly encourage our hunters to stay in stand all day and will do our best to make you as comfortable as possible to help with the task of sitting all day. If you do want to come out for a break, we will set a pre-arraigned time to come pick you up for a mid-day break. Once the hunt is over for the day, we will serve a terrific home cooked meal upon arrival back to the lodge. The mid-day action is a bit slower during the late muzzleloader hunts, and hunters often sit for a few hours in the morning and go back out early afternoon for the evening hunt. We have two different taxidermists who we strongly recommend as well as a meat locker close by.

The whitetail hunting in any state can be challenging but to most whitetail hunters the end results that are possible while hunting with us are worth the wait. We have a minimum score that we like to maintain in Iowa 140 BC. There is a great chance to see the buck of a lifetime in Iowa.

Our Iowa Archery hunts present a great opportunity to harvest a 150 class buck or bigger. The archery hunt is right in the middle of the rut.

The Iowa Archery hunt is really our specialty

Species Available

Mid-Western White-tailed Deer
Eastern Wild Turkey

We offer Whitetail hunts in both Iowa and Missouri and we also have some of the best Eastern Turkey hunting to offer in both states. We offer a 4 day Eastern turkey hunt for 2 birds in Missouri and 1 bird in Iowa for a total of 3 birds in 4 days of hunting what a deal!!!! The cost of this 3-Turkey Two State turkey hunt is just $2000.00

Season(s) and Optimum Dates

Whitetail hunting in Iowa runs from Mid October thru January with a mixture of shotgun and archery hunts. The archery season is during the rut hunt in November. Missouri Whitetail hunts run from September thru January and the rut hunt is a rifle hunt

The best turkey hunting is in April thru the middle of May with some great Tom’s being taken all through the season

Weapons/Gear Recommended

Iowa only offers a shotgun, muzzle loader or archery hunt. No rifle season on bucks.

Missouri has an archery or rifle season, I would recommend a 270 cal or bigger. We can shoot out to 300 yards from some of our stands in rifle season

Clothing/Equipment Suggestions

Turkey hunting in the spring can be very warm but it can also be very cool that time of year. You will need to bring along some warm clothing as well as your rain gear, you just never know.

Deer hunting will require warm and cold clothing as well. Rain gear may be needed in the early season and warmer clothes later in the year. We do have heated huts in the shotgun/muzzle loader hunts but you will still need to be prepared for some very chilly weather

Climatic Considerations

Elevation at our camp is around 750 ft above sea level and at times we have some heavy humidity. Temperatures in the spring can run from 30 to 70 degrees and in the fall hunts from 70 down to 0 degrees. We would like to see you be prepared for all conditions so that your hunt is much more enjoyable.

Hunting Difficulty/Health level

Please let us know if you have any physical disabilities, we will do our very best to make your hunt a memory of a lifetime. Also please let us know of any health problems or allergies, foods or medication.
