Cordoba Dove Hunting

Cordoba Dove Hunting - Argentina Dove Hunting

Cordoba Dove HuntingOur Cordoba Dove hunting lodge is located in northern Cordoba Province, approximately 60 miles (100 km) or 1.5 hours from the international airport in Cordoba, Argentina.

The Lodge is situated within the Cordoba agricultural area on 10,000 acres consisting of rolling hills, crop lands and streams. A 2,000 acre roosting/nesting sanctuary area is located on the property, with an estimated 20 to 25 million doves inhabiting the area for 10 months per year. Approximately 4,000 acres are planted in corn, wheat, sunflowers and sorghum annually which, together with the roost/nesting area described above, provides the perfect habitat to hold birds on the property.

There are 40 shooting areas on the property, all of which are within 5-15 minutes of the Lodge. This combination of roosting, nesting and foraging habitat provides the key elements necessary to provide the best and most conveniently located dove shooting destination in all of Cordoba Province.

Location(s) of Hunt

As indicated above, the hunting Lodge in situated in Cordoba Province in north central Argentina on a 10,000 acre privately-owned estate (estancia). There are forty shooting areas (stations) on the property, none of which are more than fifteen minutes from the main Lodge. Hunting Overview

The standard three night/four day dove hunt consists of a half day of hunting on your arrival day, two full hunting days following your arrival, and a morning hunt on the day of your departure. All of the hunting is done on the property within five to fifteen minutes of the Lodge itself, so there is not a great deal of time spent traveling between the lodge and the hunting grounds.

The average number of doves shot per day is primarily determined by the stamina of the shooter, not by the number of doves flying. Our hunters typically shoot an average 800 to 1,500 doves per day.

Species Available

The primary species available is the golden eared dove (Zenaida auriculata) with spot-winged pigeon (Columba maculosa) shooting occasionally available using decoys between April and September.

Season(s) and Optimum Dates

January

First and largest hatch of the year. This is the middle of the summer in Argentina and the shooting days are long and harvest records are typically broken at this time of the year.

You can wear shorts all day long and relax at/in the pool during the mid-day siesta. The evening temperatures will drop to 60-70°F.

This is the busy season for general tourism in Argentina, so you will need to make your airline reservations well in advance of your planned hunt.

February

February is the beginning of the sunflower harvest and is an exceptional time of the year to hunt dove in Argentina as they flock into the fields by the millions to pick up the sunflower seeds.

This is late summer and the temperatures range from 70-90°F during the day with temperatures dropping to 60-70°F at night. The days are long and mid-day is a good time to spend at the pool between the morning and afternoon shoots.

This is generally the most popular time of the dove hunting season and the Lodge generally fills up nine months in advance. Most of our clients pre-book this period at least one year ahead of time to ensure their hunting spot.

March

During March, you will find the largest concentration of birds because of the sunflower harvest, with bags of 1,000 birds per day customary. Most of the fields surrounding our property typically have no birds; however, because of our dove management program and the 2,000 acre sanctuary we will have birds.

This is early fall in Argentina and daytime temperatures have dropped to 60-80°F and 50-70°F overnight with rain possible later in the month.

March is typically a very busy month that also books well in advance.

April 1 to June 10

The Lodge is closed during this period of time and the staff go on vacation as the birds have left the property and are feeding in fields located approximately 60 miles (100 km) away. The birds start returning to the roost sanctuary in mid May.

June 10

Opening date for the new season – while we typically experience the least volume of birds at this time of year, the quality of the dove shooting remains excellent and more challenging as the birds are mature and are stronger fliers as a result.

July

This is the second busiest month of the year at the Lodge. Considering that it is summer here in North America, this is an excellent time to bring your son or daughter after he/she has graduated from either high school or college. This period of time sees the second hatch of the year resulting in a good mix of both mature birds and young of the year.

As the Lodge is located in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are revered, so this is winter in Argentina, but the weather is great with very dry, crisp days and very cool evenings.

August

A great month for both doves and weather – with weather conditions very similar to July, but with an even greater volume of birds as this month corresponds with the start of the third hatch.

September

Our favorite time to shoot – the third hatch is now complete and all of the flyways on the property are equally productive.

This is the early spring in Argentina and it is very dry with daytime temperatures around 60-80°F and night time temperatures around 40-60°F – making evening drinks by the fire absolutely delightful.

Our low season pricing starts on September 15th and continues through January 9th with a 25% discount over the high season prices (which run from January 10th through September 14th). The volume of doves remains high and quality shooting is still available.

October

This is our third busiest month of the year with lots of repeat hunters who book nine months in advance. The weather conditions are very similar to September, but just a bit warmer. This is really an excellent time to shoot on the property.

November

November typically marks the fourth hatch of the year and begins our annual Father/Son Promotion.

Temperatures during the day range between 60-80°F and 50-70°F overnight – which basically corresponds with the same weather conditions experienced during the month of February, with the exception that it generally does not rain in November.

This is a busy season in Argentina and you are advised to book your hunt and get your airline reservations well in advance if your are interested in hunting during the month of November.

December

Due to the holiday season here in the United States, this is probably the least busy month at the Lodge, despite the fact that the property probably has the highest number of birds during the entire year.

During December, the swimming pool is in full use and all flyways on the property are equally productive with very high volumes of birds.

Temperatures during the day range between 70-90°F and 50-70°F overnight.

The tourist season in Argentina is in full swing so air travel needs to be booked six months in advance. The Father/Son Promotion continues and Low Season pricing is still in effect despite the high volume shooting opportunities.
