Anyone who has read about African plains game hunting or watched Craig Boddington’s “Tracks Across Africa” may have developed a desire to hunt the king of African plains game – the Sable. 

Sable are among the most striking of all the African antelope and one of the top trophies on the list of most African hunters. Their magnificent horns, contrasting colors and relative scarcity make them a highly desired trophy animal.

Sable bulls turn darker with age, eventually achieving their pitch black coloration when fully mature and ready to challenge the dominant male during the breeding season. They have a very distinctive musky odor which can often be detected while tracking.  Despite their appearance, sable are not overly large antelope but make up for this size deficit through their aggressive nature.

Sable can usually be hunted along with other species of plains game without having to change locations.  In some countries like Tanzania or Zimbabwe, the right to hunt sable is generally reserved for the longer safaris due to high demand and their relative scarcity over most of their range.  However Global Sporting Safaris is now able to offer a quality sable hunt in Zambia in as few as five days.
